The Largest Ljubljana Merkur Sales Centre

On Thursday, 24 September 2009, Merkur is due to open its largest Ljubljana sales centre in Vižmarje. The 24,000-square-metre indoor area of the new sales centre is composed of a garage, sales areas, and warehousing facilities. The customers can find at one place a wide variety of products for the home, garden and workshop.

Merkur has built the new sales centre in Vižmarje to extend its offer and replace a more than thirty-year-old shop from Šentvid called Okovje. The number of visitors has outgrown the shop’s size, and Merkur has decided to replace it by the new sales centre. Its indoor sales and warehousing facilities take up 13,500 square metres. The sales centre consists of three floors: a parking area for 259 cars is in the cellar, MERKURMOJSTER on the ground floor, and MERKURDOM on the first floor. The outdoor parking area includes another 113 parking lots. The company has invested a total of EUR 20 million into the new sales centre, for which the plot of land was purchased a decade ago.  

The newly built centre has been designed according to the well established Merkur sales centre concept. The visitors to Ljubljana sales centre in Vižmarje will enjoy doing the shopping thanks to the carefully designed shopping path that winds through the modern and neatly arranged shopping area. They will be able to select from among 40,000 different items by established manufacturers. The sales centre is divided into two areas. MERKURDOM offers products for the home, pleasant living and garden, while MERKURMOJSTER focuses on the items for DIY users, entrepreneurs, craftsmen and handymen.  

The new sales centre employs 77 people of whom 34 are newly employed. The remaining 43 members of staff have been transferred to the new sales centre from Merkur sales centres, especially from MERKURMOJSTER Šentvid, which closed down on 21 August 2009. Thanks to their rich working experience, they are expected to upgrade the sales service by high-quality advice.  

The new Merkur sales centre is in Celovška 479 in Ljubljana. It is due to open on Thursday, 24 September 2009 at 6 p.m. The marketing campaign upon the opening of the sales centre addresses the potential customers as tourist travellers. The new sales centre offers a wide variety of products and has been dubbed Merkur Riviera. It offers the All Inclusive range in an inspiring ambient. First buyers will buy goods under even more convenient terms of purchase and will be prepared funny surprises.

The opening hours are every day from Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. We believe that the customers will enjoy the modern and unforgettable shopping experience. 

The new Ljubljana sales centre is a part of the strategic development plan and will allow for further growth of Merkur Group companies. Despite the unfavourable 2009 economic trends, Merkur Group has never before invested so intensively. In 2009, Merkur opened new sales centres in Varaždin, Skopje, Murska Sobota, and Big Bang in Beograd. In addition to this, two more sales centres have been under construction: the second Merkur sales centre in Beograd, and a new sales centre in Škofja Loka.
